At this season’s Paris Fashion Week, Ukrainian designer Maria Barmina made a powerful statement, one that went beyond runway aesthetics, merging elegance with empathy, and fashion with activism.

Known for her hand‑drawn prints, limited collections, and deeply felt themes like Love Ukraine, Ocean Depth, Taste of Life, Barmina brought her signature aesthetic to Paris. Her garments, often blending evening, casual, and sportswear lines, are more than clothes they are stories.

“Children in War – Team of Love” with Prestige ShowProductions

Collaborating with Prestige ShowProductions, Barmina introduced a special charity segment titled Children in War , Team of Love. The initiative shed light on the experiences of children affected by conflict most notably, those in Barmina’s native Ukraine.

The segment included:

  • A runway presentation infused with symbolic motifs prints and color palettes that evoke both fragility and resilience.

  • Storytelling through fabric: garments that reflected trauma, hope, and rebirth.

  • Partnerships with humanitarian organisations: the proceeds from certain pieces and ticket sales were directed toward aid projects supporting displaced children, psychological support, and educational access.

The charity component added not just a layer of meaning to Barmina’s show, but underscored how fashion can act as a force for awareness and healing.

A Designer With a Mission

Maria Barmina’s approach has long been rooted in conscious design. According to her brand’s philosophy, each collection is limited, hand‑crafted, and printed on fabrics she draws herself. Her commitment to sustainability and ethical production practices complements her social mission.

By intentionally combining art, fashion, and activism, Barmina underlines an urgent message: creativity alone doesn’t sustain what imbues fashion with meaning is its capacity to connect, to bear witness, and to act for those without a voice.
